Service puppies need to become accustomed to things that might be potentially frightening or startling. Hats and hoods can really change someone's appearance and could be somewhat scary. For this experiment, we found a willing participant.



Her faithful sidekick loved it.


Of course, I also tried on the hat and it didn't faze Ruby at all. A+!

Puppy Training Class

Every Saturday morning we have Puppy Training Class. Linda Port is our instructor (as well as the Program Director of Canine Partners of the Rockies) and she is extremely knowledgeable. Class is fantastic, because Linda gives us real insight into how a dog thinks. She is also very kind and patient with both human and canine newbies!

That smiling dog up on the left is Kiva, our 11-year-old shepherd mix. She is smiling because she thinks yappy pipsqueak over there is just here for a little visit and will be going home soon.

Oh Hello!

Meet the new snoot in the family! Ruby is a service puppy for Canine Partners of the Rockies in Colorado, she's a lab/golden mix, and she came to us at 10 weeks old. I'm on the other end of the leash, raising and training her for 18 months or so. Hopefully at that time, she'll be ready to move on and learn the advanced skills she'll need to assist a person with a disability.
