Turn-In Day

This afternoon, we'll load up the car with a precious passenger, drive for awhile, make our stop, then say goodbye to our girl. I'll pass the leash, and a new journey will begin for all of us.

She'll have a goodie bag of snacks-to-go and plenty of her usual food to help ease the transition. Her favorite toys are all packed and's their big adventure, too! The screechy monkey toy seems to be hiding (and I was kinda hoping he'd want to make the trip), but I think he's just being loyal to his Kiva. I'm sure I'll find him later tonight nestled in the toy basket with the rest of the home team.

I've just got to hunt down the last of Roo's medical records. I'll leave you for now with a shot of our little yellow co-pilot, taken this past weekend on a road trip in her honor, a celebration of her time with us.

We are SO thinking about all of you today!

I can imagine how difficult this would be (which is why I don't choose to do it, at least for now). However as a person with disabilities altho I don't need a service dog, if there ever came a time I would, I would forever owe you a debt of gratituted that could never be re-paid. I can imagine how such a relationship can be bitter-sweet sometimees, but I hope you feel a real sense of pride.

Were saying goodbye to Ruby miles away, but Roo you are near to our hearts always.

To the other end of the leash:

We know how hard it must be for you today, but just think what an amazing job you have accomplished for Ruby to be going on to her next journey. You are a very loving and giving person. Thank you for "Raising Ruby"

Best of luck to Ruby on her new adventures. I've followed your blog as a way to prepare and educate myself for when my boyfriend and I decide it's the right time for us to raise a service puppy. Thanks for documenting your experiences. You've raised a good dog and should be very proud. :)

My heart goes out to you, C! You have done such a selfless and honorable job with the utmost grace and style - as usual!!

Love and hugs to you, my friend.

PS this better not be the end of your blogging...

The very best of luck to Ruby on the next part of her journey ...

Many thanks to you for all that you have done to get Ruby to this stage. You have done something so important.

We wouldn't have Clive if it was not for the fantastic puppy walker that had him for his first 12 months and did all his basic training with him.

Getting a service dog totally transformed Murray's life and Ruby will go on to do a very important
job as well. You have given her such a great start ....

I know today can't be easy but you really have done something very special.

best wishes

Gosh! I don't even know what to say. My heart is breaking for you because I know how hard this must be. All the love and training you have unselfishly given to Ruby will be with her for the rest of her life. You will always be a part of her and she a part of you. Thank you for giving all of yourselves with the knowledge that this day would come. Because of you someone will have a much more fulfilling life! You guys are angels!
Sending love and hugs,

I've never visited before but I wanted to say "thank you" for the incredible act of generosity you've made. You gave your heart to Ruby so that she can be someone else's savior. You are an amazing woman.

And, congratulations to Ruby for starting the next phase of her training.

We know this is a hard day for you. But also a proud one. You have raised Ruby well and now she will be a help to someone with a need. But it sure is hard to say good-bye, isn't it! Thanks for sharing her with your readers.

I am a friend of Khyra and OP PACK.
I came to tell you that your heart is so generous and caring to have this precious one in your home to love and care for and to know that someday she would have a mission of her own. A mission that would cause you to let her go.
You groomed her for this day. You filled her heart with love, and she will never forget you.
Now she will now take the love that you gave to her, and enable someone to share their love with her.

I've been thinking of you today - it must have been really difficult. Ruby is beautiful and you have taught her so much. You gave her the world and she will give someone special the world too.

Good luck the next stage of your journey, Ruby. :)
